From September 2012 ASPIRE will be in partnership will Sedgehill School / Sixth Form

Sedgehill School

We are very proud of our sixth form and firmly believe that it is the best place for year 11 students to continue their education. Research continues to show that students achieve better in school than in sixth form colleges and we believe that the level of care and support that we offer our students sets us apart from other sixth form providers.

Next September will be the first time that the sixth form is able to offer the full range of subjects with AS Biology, Chemistry, French and Psychology being offered for the first time. Our new prefect team will be going off on their training early in the summer term and will take on their roles immediately after that. These students take on significant roles within the school and are expected to demonstrate exceptional leaderhip. Younger students will also get a range of opportunities this term to develop their skills and broaden their experiences. The whole of year 7 will go on a field trip to Hastings later on in the term, while year 8 will be going camping in June. The school has a range of activities planned for the run up to the Olympics with over 200 students getting to attend one of the events.

One of the areas of school that has seen significant development over the last 12 months has been our provision for gifted and talented students. All students identified as gifted and talented now spend at least an hour every week working together—in year 7 it is over an hour every day—and are also taking part in a great number of other activities designed to challenge and stretch them

Students interested in medicine as a career are taking part in a series of sessions run by Kings College while a group of year 11, 12 and 13 students are working with a PhD student from Cambridge University on an in-school project. Next term we will be starting work with an organisation called The Brilliant Club that will see over 50 students in school take part in an extended project designed to encourage critical and analytical thinking.

Can I take this opportunity to thank all families for supporting the school in upholding its rules and the 5Rs of Readiness, Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Reach.
